Renard 24 Construction

Part of a large shipment of enclosures that got here today.

More of that shipment.

I ordered 11 of these for the REN24's.
I got them here.

Lid closed.

With "Danger High Voltage" labels on.
I got the labels here.

YET ANOTHER case of parts!!!

The boards arrived - MAN!  Between all those SSR's, the LEDTriks board, The Ren64's and these, I've gone through 2 spools of solder and have started the 3rd!

Mounting bracket / heat sink installed.

I just cut Aluminum angle brackets to make them.

Close up of a board and mounting bracket / heat sink in a case.

I'll drill 4 holes in the area of the heat sink that sticks out to use to mount them.

I'm waiting on the screw terminals to arrive.

Close up of a completed board with the screw terminals.

The other 10 were built all the way to this stage in 2 nights in hotel rooms ;)

Only the Optos and Triacs are left to install (And heat sinks / cases)

Close up of the screw terminals.

I got sick of cutting all of the metal with the hack saw, so I broke down and got a metal cutting blade for my saw.

It's hard to tell by the picture, but that's a HUGE blade - 1 foot across.

The laser guided, metal cutting, heat sink creating chop saw!

(Yes - it really has 2 lasers to show you where the sides of the blade are going to be)

Finished product!

(Well - No holes yet - that's another day :) )

(I also cut a few small ones for the 2 DC SSR's)

OK - I cheated - I had a HELPER!!!  Is it still considered DIY???

The real reason they're all so exact!!!
 Change, change change.
I joined the heat sink group buy and got a dozen pre-made heat sinks.
They are one piece, and are pre drilled for the enclosure and triacs!
Update - They were NOT pre drilled for the enclosure, and the triac holes needed to be bored out, but it was still worth it!

4 wire nuts super glued in place as spacers.

#6-32 bolt on the heat sink.

On top of the spacers.

Side view.

Lowes had 6' and 9' extension cords on clearance
today so I cleaned out 3 stores!  I got almost 500.
I need 1 per channel (392) and the rest are to be
used as actual extension cords.
